UNIFIED SENSOR INTERFACE
During participation in plant factory and agriculture related projects, I discovered that lots of sensors are used in most cultivation facilities, mainly for environment monitoring and data collection.Â
Since lots of these sensors come in different specifications and interfaces, it becomes more difficult to achieve integrated and unified operation.
Therefore, I recently came up with an idea of a UNIFIED SENSOR INTERFACE.

DILEMMAS AND DIFFICULTIES

CULTIVATORS
For cultivation facility managers, environment monitoring and control rely on various kinds of sensors, resulting in a complicate system on which hardware (wiring) and software integration are both difficult.
Every cultivator has their own demands and requirements, but it seems impossible for them to modify things by programming.

RESEARCHERS
Likewise, for environment research or monitoring tasks in vast areas, a large amount of gateways and duplicated sensors would be used. Considering data collection issues, I wish to develop a cheap and simple management interface.

SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Unified sensor interface modules are mainly composed of core microcontroller, USB sensor ports, and remote communication (Wi-Fi) module.

INSPIRATION & ANALOGY
Recalled similar concepts of "unified device interface".

LEGO EV3 MACHINE
- Unified USB wire ports for all provided devices (sensors and motors). Increases utility and flexibility.
- A simple button interface provides basic functions (such as stop or run).

INDUSTRIAL BUS MODULES
- Modularization: unified power supply and specifications
- Integration: modules of various functionalities can be installed by only "plugging" them onto the bus.
