FUEL CELL-PLANT FACTORY INTEGRATION

Undergraduate Part-Time Project, 2016

This is an advanced project based on previously developed Plant Factory monitoring and regulation technologies. A fuel cell is integrated to the small-scaled plant factory system.

Carried out in the Biomass and Energy Materials Research Group, BIME, NTU.

OVERVIEW

PLANT FACTORY

This is a small-scaled plant factory intended to be placed indoors.
The core controller is the Arduino Due. Environmental control plants are similar to the environmental platform in the previously developed system (Air conditioners, LED dimmable light source, CO2 supplier, humidifier, fans).
The temperature, humidity & CO2 concentration sensor is as well identical to the one used in previous project.

FUEL CELL

The main purpose of the fuel cell is to provide electricity.
Besides power supply, products of fuel combustion, namely water and CO2, are recycled and processed for plant cultivation usage.
To record of analyze electricity supply conditions of the fuel cell, current sensors are added to the circuit.
A cooling chip module is used to cool down produced water.
Produced CO2 are gathered into a container. The external CO2 source in previous project is removed, the control valve is installed on the current CO2 container instead.
